Franklin D. Hawkins, 81, of 105 Leffew Drive in Eden, passed away Thursday morning, August 20, 2015, at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro.

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, August 23, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Overlook Cemetery. Rockingham County Veteran's Honor Guard will perform military honors.

Mr. Hawkins was born August 29, 1933 in Rockingham County, NC to the late Isaac B. and Elsie Bryant Hawkins. He was a US Navy veteran who served on the ship, LST 1163. He was a past member of the Eden Moose Lodge and the American Legion Post #254. Frank was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed the fellowship with the many friends that were his breakfast buddies at the local McDonald's as well as several other local restaurants.

He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Hawkins of Eden; two grandchildren, Macy and Kinley Carter; four step-sons, Keith Hill and wife, Cindy of Stoneville, Darryl Hill and wife, Lesley of Myrtle Beach, SC, Mark Hill and Terry Hill, both of Stoneville; 10 step-grandchildren and 14 step-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Bobby Hawkins and wife, Ann, and Ronnie Hawkins and wife, Dione; two sisters, Hilda Martin and husband, Junior and Judith Doss and husband, Garfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha "Diane" Holt Hawkins; brothers, Belvie Hawkins and Buford Hawkins; and three sisters, Pauline Hopkins, Jerline Harvey and Doris Brymer.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Sunday (1 - 2 PM) at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

Frank and I spent many hours at McDonalds talking. His many friends will greatly miss him. He was a great friend to all who knew him. I am sorry I will not be able to attend the services but my thoughts and prayers will be with the family in this time of sorrow. Ted Turner, York, SC.
