Dear Shelia, Mark and Clarence, He got home before dark. Maurice was my oldest friend not in years but the time we knew each other. I met Maurice when I was probably 5 years old he was 3 or four. I am now 77 so you can see it has been a long time but not long enough. We attended grade school and high school together and in between we played a lot. Maurice was know in our neighborhood as the "terror on Williams street." He was a mess but never caused any problems, we just had fun without TV making life fun. I entered the Air Force he served in the Marine Corp. We both loved America and later in our lives we both loved God and we both still do. Now he is seeing with his eyes what we spoke of on so many occasions. Every time I returned to Leaksville/Eden I always visited him, the last time was in May of this year and we had a short visit and I met his wife Shelia for the first time. He was in Hospice at the time which surprised me as he looked very well, always with the smile. We hugged, shook hands, promised to stay in contact not knowing this would be our last visit this side of eternity. We knew one another for 70 plus years, never had an argument never miffed at one another just friends. That's what life is all about "just friends." I will see my friend again one day and we can pick up where we left off and he will most likely say, "Philip, what kept you?" Enjoy Heaven my friend. Phil Martin genesis11@tampabay.rr.com
