Doris Barksdale Kennedy, age 101, of Eden, passed away Thursday afternoon, July 9, 2015, at Morehead Nursing Center.

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, July 12, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Overlook Cemetery.

Mrs. Kennedy was born January 6, 1914 in Leaksville, NC to the late James Tilden Barksdale and Roxanna Hailey Barksdale. She was a graduate of Leaksville High School, Class of 1931 before moving to Wilmington, Delaware where she lived for 67 years. While in Delaware she was an active member of Immanuel Episcopal Church and always assisted with the offering of communion there. Mrs. Kennedy was an avid golfer and loved to bowl. In 2008 she moved back to Eden and joined the Church of the Epiphany. She was a retiree of E. I. Dupont where she was a secretary in the Research and Development Department.

She is survived by her nephews and nieces, Barney W. Walker, Jr., James R. Walker and wife, Ann, Penny Moore and husband, Bill, Anne Wolf, Jamie Barksdale, Michael Barksdale, Ann Vassallo, Susan Orlowski, James Frederick, Robert Adams, and Judy Phipps.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, Edward Tilghman Paca Kennedy; four sisters, Lillian Adams, Marguerite Walker, Roxie Wright, and Ann Gilley; and five brothers, James Barksdale, Lawrence Barksdale, Julian Barksdale, Carlyle Barksdale, and William "Billy" W. Barksdale.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Sunday (1 - 2 PM) at Fair Funeral Home. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.fairfuneralhome.com
