Charles "Chuck" Byrd Sumpter, III, 52, of 830 Beck Road, passed away Thursday, July 22, 2010 at Morehead Memorial Hospital. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Monday, July 26, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Sumpter was born November 26, 1957 in Lynchburg, VA, son of Helen Walthall Sumpter and the late Charles Sumpter, Jr. He had been a press operator for Compton Tape and Label Company. Mr. Sumpter was a US Navy veteran having served his country from 1977 - 1981. Surviving is his wife, Pamela Corum Sumpter of the home; step-son, James Cox of the home; mother, Helen W. Sumpter of Eden; brother, Steve Sumpter and wife, Marilyn of Greensboro; sisters, Sharon Pace and husband, H. C. of Steamboat Springs, CO, Susan Richardson and husband, Richie of Eden, and Ginger Booker and husband, Randy of Burlington. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service (10 - 11 AM) at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the residence. Memorial contributions may be made to The Chuck Sumpter Fund at Newbridge Bank, 801 S. Van Buren Road, Eden, NC 27288.
