John Wesley Hurd, age 83 of 922 Virginia Street, Apt. A Eden, NC passed away on Sunday February 1, 2015 at Wake Forrest Baptist Medical Center.
A funeral service will be held 2 pm Wednesday at Fair Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Overlook Cemetery.
Mr. Hurd was born November 9, 1931 in Mayodan to the late Vernon Gardner Hurd and Alma Harris Hurd. He was a member of Gospel Road Baptist Church. He was the part owner and operator of the former Stoneville Used Auto Parts.
Surviving are wife, Lera Foley Hurd of the home; sons, Robert Hurd and wife Elizabeth of Eden, Donnie, Eddie "Garry" and Darrell Hurd all of Eden; daughter, Susie Hurd Allen and sister, Colleen H. Rivers and brother, Woodrow Hurd; 7 grandchildren, Ann Marie Hurd, Robbie Hurd, Casey Lee Hurd, Misty Atkins, B. J. Allen, Darrell Hurd, and Chris Jarrell; and and five great-grandchildren, Tyler Max Hurd, Channing Lucas Hurd, Hanna Akins, Elliott Atkins, and Brianna Allen
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, James Randy Hurd; grandson, Sgt. John Carlton Hurd; granddaughter, Brandy Kay Hurd; brothers, Norman Hurd and David Lee Hurd; and sister, Ruth Morrison.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6 -8 pm at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the home of his son, Robert, 247 Warren Road in Eden.
In lieu of flowers, the family gratefully requests that donations be made to Fair Funeral Home, PO Box 337, Eden, NC 27289, to assist with the cost of funeral services.
