Melvin Lee Denny, 80, of 449 Morgan Road in Eden, went home to be with his Lord on Sunday afternoon, January 18, 2015 at Hospice Home of Rockingham County in Wentworth.

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Wednesday, January 21 at Fair Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Ridgeview Memorial Gardens.

A native of Rockingham County, Mr. Denny was born May 2, 1934 to the late James Randolph and Sally Jarrell Denny. He was a member of Wayside Baptist Church and a retiree of Spray Cotton Mill after 41 years of service. The favorite past time for Melvin was sitting on the porch with his wife of 47 years, Romona, waving to friends as they passed by and greeting friends.

He is survived by two sons, Rodger Lee Denny and wife, Ann, of Eden and Larry D. Denny and wife, Bonita, of High Point; daughter, Paula D. Sutliff and husband, Syd, of Stoneville; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a half-brother, Jimmy Denny; and best friends, Monk Tate and Harry Ratliff.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death two years ago, by his wife, Romona Houchins Denny.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, 7 - 9 PM, at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
