William Darrell Strutton, 63, of 609 Robindale Ct. in Eden, passed away Wednesday, December 3, 2014, at his home.
A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, December 6, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel.
Mr. Strutton was born May 26, 1951 in Leaksville, NC to the late Quecell and Frances Taylor Strutton. He was a graduate of Morehead High School, Class of 1969 and of the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill. Darrell was also a US Air Force veteran and a retiree of Karastan - Mohawk Company.
He is survived by his brother, Jay Marvin Strutton and wife, Shenay, of Myrtle Beach, SC and sister-in-law Joan Strutton of Eden.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Steve Strutton.

It is always difficult, or more often, impossible, to capture what should be said in the passing of a friend. He was my chess friend, which doesn't seem like much if you haven't played chess. To play play chess at his great level, almost a Master Player (never could beat him) means nothing to most people. But, if you understood how much effort is required to attain his level, you might appreciate the determination, study and focus that he possessed. Was he stubborn? Of course, as his brother and sister-in-law would agree. Pawn to c4 is my response to the best chess player and one of the nicest guys I ever met.
