Jerry McArthur Ayers, 72, of 331 Sunset Drive in Eden, passed away Thursday afternoon, November 27, 2014 at Morehead Memorial Hospital.
A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, November 30, at Emmanuel Baptist Church on Virginia Street in Eden. Burial will follow in Overlook Cemetery.
Mr. Ayers was born May 1, 1942 in Pageton, WV, to the late Wesley Powell Ayers and Beatrice Lee Ayers. He was a US Army veteran and served two years in the National Guard. Jerry retired from Morehead Memorial Hospital after 29 years of service in the engineering department.
He is survived by his daughter, Kim Farris and husband, James of Eden; two sons, Tim Ayers and wife, Sharon of Martinsville, VA and Andy Ayers and wife, Mary of Martinsville; fiancee', Charlotte Meeks of Eden; three brothers, Don Ayers and wife, Jackie of Roanoke, VA, Marvin Ayers and wife, Eileen of Eden and James Ayers and wife, Sue, also of Eden; eight sisters, Lorraine Pennington of Poway, CA, Della Fearing of Parris, CA, Agnes Hall of Archdale, NC, Laverne Hall and husband, Ben, of Stoneville, NC, Barbara Christian of El Cajon, CA, Dreama Armstrong, Sherry Ayers and Karen Hopkins and husband, Robert, all of Eden; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Brenda Brown Ayers and brother, Garland Ayers.
The family will receive friends Saturday evening, 6 - 8 PM, at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

So sorry about Jerry. He was a very thoughtful person. I just lost my husband last month and he was there at the service. He had been a friend for a long time. He will be missed.
