David Steven Gentry, 61, of 422 Main Street in Eden, passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2014, at Hospice Home of Rockingham County in Wentworth.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Friday, September 19, at Cruise Family Cemetery, 610 Cloudbreak Road (off of Hwy 58) in Vesta, Virginia.

David was born October 16, 1952 in Huntsville, Alabama. He was a US Army veteran and a former machinist for Tyco in Greensboro.

He is survived by his wife, Sheryl Wade Gentry of the home; daughter, Trina Gentry of Madison; two grandchildren, Trey and Caleb French of Reidsville; mother, June Gentry of Eden; sister, Diane Hudgins and husband, Don, of Eden; step-son, David King of Eden; nephew, Andy Johnson and wife, Tesh of Eden; nieces, Sandy Johnson and Ellen Hudgins, both of Eden; aunts, Sandra Cruise of Pfafftown and Betty Pikula and husband, Lou, of Winston-Salem; three loving cousins; and special father-in-law, David Wade.

Preceding him in death was his father, Robert Douglas Gentry and sister, Cindy Gentry Johnson.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening, 4 - 8 PM, at the home of his mother, 615 South Hamilton Street in Eden.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Rockingham County, PO Box 281, Wentworth, NC 27375.

David and I went to school together and served in the U S Army together! We also served in Korea, in the 6/37th FA , 2nd Inf. Div ! Rest in peace Brother!

God bless the Gentry family. I met David at RCC when we were taking the machinist courses. We then went to work at Newman Machine Company. We carpooled together for nearly three years. I considered David a true friend.
