Ellis Trainum Moorefield, 93 of 440 Barnes Road, Eden, passed away on Friday evening July 11, 2014 at his home.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday July 14th at Fair Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Overlook Cemetery with military honors provided by the Rockingham County Honor Guard.

Ellis was born January 24, 1921 in Schoolfield, VA to the late William and Laura Mitchell Moorefield. He was a WWII veteran of the D-Day invasion of Normandy, France. He was later wounded and received a Purple Heart.

He was a member of Roberts Memorial Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his son Larry Moorefield, granddaughter Amy Moorefield; brothers, Leroy, Arthur and Samuel Moorefield; sisters, Hazel Moorefield, Ann Matherly and Eva Stanley.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Lorene Heffinger Moorefield of the home; son, Randy Moorefield; daughters, Dawn Bundy and husband Steve, Alania Bowers and husband Russell, Desiree Nitsch and husband Lance all of Eden and Teia Mason and husband Vernon of Martinsville, VA,; daughter-in-law, Mryna Moorefield of Eden; brother, Jimmy Moorfield; sisters, Lorene Amburn, Cornelia Pike, Sue East, Janie Davis, Rachel Pulliam, Barbara Hill and Kay Hicks; 14 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Ellis' special caregivers, Christina, Wendy and Karen for their love and devotion. Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 6 -8 pm at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the home.
