A. L. "Link" Barton, Jr., 84, loving husband, father and grandfather, of 346 Johnsie-Billie Harris Street in Eden, transitioned to his heavenly home on Tuesday afternoon, July 8, 2014, at Hospice Home of Rockingham County in Wentworth.

A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, July 11, at First Baptist Church on Greenwood Street in Eden.

Mr. Barton was born December 30, 1929 in Leaksville, NC, to the late Abraham Lincoln Barton and Carrie Spencer Barton. He was a graduate of Leaksville High School, class of 1948 and a US Navy veteran. As an active part of his community, Link had served as the former President of the Stoneville Jaycee's, former President of Eden Rotary, former President of Eden Boy's Club, and had served on the Board of Director's for Meadow Greens Country Club. Mr. Barton was a retired accountant for John Smith and Sons, Inc. During the years following his retirement, he worked with Grogan's Garden Center and Merita Bread Company.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Marshall Barton of the home; three children, Charles "Lennie" Barton and wife, Jessica, of Raleigh, Shelly Dupree of Raleigh, and Gregory "Lee" Barton and wife, Leigh Ann, of Florence, SC; eight grandchildren; three step-children, Garry Ferguson and wife, Linda, of Dundee, MI, Larry Ferguson and wife, Debi, of Winter Haven, FL, and Vickie Oliver and husband, Joe, of Tipton, MI; brothers, Jimmy Barton of High Point, Forrest "Ray" Barton and Richard Barton, both of Eden; and his beloved dog, Sammy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Charlotte Westling.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening, 6 - 8 PM, at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 533 Greenwood Street, Eden, NC 27288; or to Rockingham County Humane Society, 205 Boone Road, Eden, NC 27288.
