Walter Thurman Shorter, Jr., 78, of 631 Fagg Street in Eden, passed away Tuesday morning, July 1, 2014, at Brian Center.
A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, July 3, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel. Burial to follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Shorter was born October 19, 1935 in Leaksville, NC, the son of the late Walter T. and Maxine DeHart Shorter. He was a US Navy veteran and a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church. Mr. Shorter was a retiree of North Carolina Gas Company.
He is survived by three daughters, Doloras Craddock and husband, Wayne of Eden, Teresa Shorter of Greensboro, and Tammy Shorter of Thomasville; son, Gary Shorter of the home; two grandchildren, Justin Craddock and Chandler Craddock; brother, Calvin Shorter; and two nieces.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, 6 - 8 PM, at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the home of Doloras Craddock, 1303 Town Creek Road in Eden.
Memorial contributions may be made to Brian Center, 226 N. Oakland Avenue, Eden, NC 27288.

I really enjoyed the times I would get to go on special outings with your family when we were kids. Your dad was special to so many people. Dear Family, Thurman and Calvin and I go back to dear old school days at Spray Graded and even before. Good days of memory of friends around Rhode Island Street and the "Dick and Willie" railroad tracks in Spray. Last time Thurman and I visited with each other was a Tri-City High School Class of 1954 Reunion. We missed him this year for our 60th year gathering.
