William "Red" Marshall Garrett, 78, of 375 Rakestraw Road in Stoneville, passed away early Tuesday morning, June 17, 2014, at Hospice Home of Rockingham County in Wentworth.

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, June 19, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Ridge-View Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Garrett was born July 13, 1935 in McDowell County, West Virginia, son of the late William Henry and May Flippin Garrett. He was a member of Providence Baptist Church in Stoneville, where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and Sunday School Superintendent for many years. Mr. Garrett was the owner and operator of Caswell Lumber Company from 1978 until his retirement in 2001.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Roberts Garrett, of the home; two sons, Randall Garrett and Brian Garrett and wife, Angel, both of Stoneville; four grandchildren, Hannah Garrett Isley and husband, Derrick of Greensboro, Matthew Garrett and wife, Sierra, Nathan Garrett and Adam Garrett, all of Stoneville; great-grandson, Maddox Isley; brother Roy Garrett and wife, Doris of Indian Trail, NC; sister, Ann Scott and husband, Lester of Ridgeway, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Wayne Garrett and sister, Doris Garrett Jones.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, 6 - 8 PM, at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

To Ruth, Randall and Brian....soooo very sorry to read of Red's passing. Sweet memories of you all while growing up at Providence and attending school with Randall and Brian. Red was always a Godly man, loved the Lord, his church and his family. Thoughts and prayers to each of you, your entire family and know God is with you, look to him for strength.
