Edward "Ray" Hopper, Jr., 58, of 110 Michelle Lane in Eden, passed away Sunday afternoon, May 11, 2014, at Morehead Memorial Hospital.
A funeral service will be held at 4 PM on Thursday, May 15, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Ridgeview Memorial Gardens.
A native of Leaksville, NC, Mr. Hopper was born July 1, 1955, son of the late Edward Ray Hopper, Sr and Clarice Isley Hopper. He was the owner and operator of Hopper Wrecker for 26 years. Ray was a supporter of the local rescue squads, EMS, fire departments and law enforcement with his wrecker service.
He is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Hopper and Katie Hopper, both of Eden; brother, Ronnie Hopper and wife, Melessa of Sandy Ridge; three sisters, Betty Hopper Emory of Ridgeway, VA, Bonnie Purgason and husband, Allen of Eden, and Brenda Campbell and husband, Dickie of Ridgeway, VA; five grandchildren, Madison Reynolds, Dylan Stallings, Carley Reynolds, Layken Hopper and Raylan Stallings; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Rufus.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Sandra Hopper Wilson and Connie Hopper McGraw.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, 6 - 8 PM, at Fair Funeral Home.

Ray was a super fellow whom I had the pleasure of meeting many years ago as a rookie State Trooper in Eden. Over the years I observed him help out more than one person at a car wreck who didn't have money to pay a wrecker bill. He always went out of his way to help us as well as the motoring public.
