Norman Leo French, Jr., 82, of 641 Pierce Street, surrounded by his family,passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening, April 2, 2014, at Hospice Home of Rockingham County in Wentworth.

A memorial service will be held at 3 PM on Saturday, April 5, at St. Joseph of the Hills Catholic Church in Eden, where he was a member. Military rites will be performed by Rockingaham County Veteran's Honor Guard at the church.

Mr. French was born June 19, 1931 in Washington, DC, the son of the late Norman Leo French, Sr. and Margaret E. Riley French. He was a US Air Force veteran, having served in the Korean War, and was a member of VFW, Post #8163. Mr. French was previously employed by Daystrom Furniture Company in South Boston, VA. Prior to that he worked for United Airlines. He enjoyed flying and was a private pilot. His passions were his wife of 56 years, his children, and the love of skating at The Roll-A-Bout in Eden.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Orndorff French, of the home; three daughters, Marianne Taylor and husband, Glenn, of Pinehurst, NC, Margaret Hudson and husband, Mike, of Virginia Beach, VA, and Dala Stanley and husband, Joe, of Eden; son, Christopher French and wife, Lisa, of Culpeper, VA; six grandchildren, Cameron M. Hudson, Kaleigh M. Hudson, Joseph French, Sarah French, Zachary Stanley, and Joshua Stanley; brother, Thomas E. French; and sister, Martha V. Schulmerich of Rochester, NY.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Joseph Leo French; and brother, Francis X. French.

The family will receive friends at the home of his daughter, Dala Stanley, 320 Meadow View Lane in Eden.
