John Ronald Reid, 66, of 244 Meadowood Rd in Eden, passed away Tuesday morning, February 4, 2014, at his home.

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Friday, February 7, at Freedom Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Ridgeview Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Reid was born July 7, 1947 in Asheville, NC, a son of the late John Perry Reid and Frances William Reid. He was a US Army Vietnam veteran where he was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a member of Freedom Baptist Church in Reidsville. Mr. Reid enjoyed playing golf with his wife at various local golf courses.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Macy Reid of the home; son, Gary Dale Reid of Monte Vista, CO; three daughters, Wendy McPherson and husband, Dusty of Eden, Rhonda Kimberly Bailey of Asheville, and Sarah Lynn Brown and husband, Greg of Christiansburg, VA; four grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren and two brothers, Robert "Bobby" Reid of Cherryville, NC and Randy Reid.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Butch Reid.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening, 7 - 9 PM, at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Freedom Baptist Church, 471 Stone Road, Reidsville, NC 27320 (Attn: Building Fund)

The Department of Correction mourns along with you. I worked with Mr. Reid for many years in the correctional field. He was a good leader and good friend. I pray that God will give you the strength you need to make it past the difficult time in your life and remember there are brighter days ahead.
