James Clayton Sams, 70, of 180 Marlin Road in Cascade, VA, passed away Monday morning, October 7, 2013 at Danville Regional Medical Center in Danville, VA.

A graveside service will be held 11 am Thursday at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Mr. Sams was born May 30, 1943 in Rockingham County to the late Roy Edwards Sams and Ethel Strader Sams. He was previously part owner of Central Service Station in Eden. James was a 25 year member of Old Time Baptist Church and a lifetime member of the VFW after serving in the North Carolina National Guard.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Stephens Sams of the home; sons, James Clayton Sams, Jr. of Danville and James Clayton Sams III of Eden; daughter, Ashley Ann Sams of Stoneville; brothers, Tracy Sams of South Carolina , Steve and Ed Sams of Eden; sister, Darlene Boyd Smith and husband Carl of Eden; 16 grandchildren and numerous neices and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6 - 8 pm and other times at the home.
