Obituary For Betty "Sue" Honeycutt
September 7, 1929 - March 19, 2024


Betty Sue Honeycutt, formerly of Wilson Street in Eden, NC, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at Spring Arbor Cottage in Greensboro.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, March 25, 2024, at First Baptist Church in Eden, with burial to follow at Ridgeview Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, from noon to 1:00 pm, at First Baptist Church.

Sue, a native of Drexel, NC, was born on September 7, 1929, to the late Charles Guy Berry and Eunice Goodnight Berry. She graduated from Appalachian State University with a B.S. Degree, and later earned a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Over the span of 27 years, she held teaching positions in Eden, including Burton Grove, Leaksville Graded, and Central Elementary Schools. Additionally, she served as Elementary School Supervisor for six years in the Eden City School System. Sue retired in 1988 with 33 years of educational service.

Sue was a former member of the Jr. Woman’s Club and Eden Woman’s Club, and she dedicated her time volunteering for Meals on Wheels. She was a loyal member of various organizations, including Alpha Delta Kappa, an International Honor Society for Women Educators, as well as the Rockingham County Retired School Personnel and the Thursday Study Club. She was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church for 70 years, participating in the Word of Life Sunday School Class and the Jesse Grogan Missions Group.

Sue was preceded in death by her husband, J.C., who passed away on December 4, 1997, after 47 years of marriage. She is survived by her sons, Bob of Greensboro, and Eric of Wake Forest, her daughters, Elaine Rector (Bruce) of Meadows of Dan, VA, and Dr. Nancy Honeycutt of Saxapahaw. Sue is also survived by eight grandchildren, Brian Rector (Becky), Caroline Altman (Derek), Kate Clark (Chad), Jake Honeycutt, Luke Honeycutt, Nick Honeycutt, Madelyne Honeycutt, and Elizabeth Yates as well as eight great-grandchildren.
