Loretta Griffin Shelton, 86, of 308 E. Aiken Road in Eden, passed away Wednesday evening, January 10, 2018, at Hospice Home of Rockingham County.

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, January 14th at Fair Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Overlook Cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service (1 - 2 PM) at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the home of her son, Tim, 210 Weaver Street, Eden, NC.

Mrs. Shelton was born February 5, 1931 in Rockingham County, NC to the late Oscar Lee and Thelma Hennis Griffin.  She was a former member of Meadow View Methodist Church. Loretta's work history was varied throughout her life, having worked for Sears on Lawndale Avenue in Greensboro, was a Dispatcher for Eden Police Department, White Dot Convenience Store, was a retiree of Fieldcrest Mills, and following retirement she was a General Manager for Dollar General.

She is survived by her son, Tim Shelton and wife, Beth of Eden;  two daughters, Jerri Deacon of Eden and Jonie Howell and husband, Mark of Garner;  four grandchildren, Kristy Witt of the home, Austin Shelton of Raleigh, Haley Shelton of Smyrna, TN, and Lacy Howell of Garner;   three great-grandchildren, T.J and Madison Witt, and Liam Dreyer; brother, Kenan Griffin and wife, Pat of Mayodan; niece, Robin Lanning;  and nephew, Ken Griffin.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John "Jack" L. Shelton;  two brothers, Oscar Lee Griffin, Jr. and Frankie Griffin.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Jenni Jay, the staff of Morehead Nursing Center, Hospice of Rockingham County, and the staff of Eden Internal Medicine and Dr. Shah.
