Joseph "J. T." Tillman Gatewood, 83, of 517 Cedar Street in Eden, passed away early Monday morning, November 27, 2017, at Annie Penn Memorial Hospital in Reidsville.

A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, November 30, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service (1 - 2 PM) and other times at the residence.

J. T. was born September 8, 1934 to the late Walter and Ola Hooker Gatewood.  He was a US Army veteran and a member of North Spray Christian Church.  In his younger years he worked for Ivie Tire Company before going to work for the City of Eden where he retired from.  

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, June Land Gatewood of the home;  two sons, Duward Gatewood and fiancee', Donna Brown and Rodney Gatewood and wife, Melissa, both of Eden;  daughter, Connie Gatewood Koontz and husband, Bill of Eden;  five grandchildren, Lauren Gatewood, Tiffany Gatewood, Kathryn Metro, Tillman Koontz, and Brianna Brown;  two great-grandchildren, Chase and Lilly Chapman;  sister, Betty Gauldin;  brother, Bobby Gatewood and wife, Thelma;  sister-in-law, Anna L. Gilley and husband, Lanney of Reidsville; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friend, Barbara Smith.

In additon to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Effie Snody and Ola Lester.
