Mary Jane Bateman Bowman, 87, of  Ridgeway, VA, passed away Wednesday morning, January 11, 2017, at Morehead Memorial Hospital in Eden.

A funeral service will be held at 4 PM on Saturday, January 14, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will follow in Overlook Cemetery.

Mrs. Bowman was born February 8, 1929 in Spray, NC to the late George Allen Bateman and Daisy Curry Bateman.  She was a member of Kings Highway Christian Church.  She loved her animals, going to the beach, and loved basketball, especially the Virginia Cavaliers.  Mrs. Bowman was a retiree of E. I. Dupont.

She is survived by her sisters, Doris McClung of Eden, Louise Nance of Ridgeway, VA, Elizabeth Stone of Horsepasture, VA, and Nancy Coleman of Ridgeway, VA; nephew, Jarrell Coleman and numerous other nieces and nephews; and special friends, Yvonne Bateman, Mark Smith, Orin Davis, and Melissa Meeks.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Woodrow Bowman;  two sisters;  and four brothers.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service (3 - 4 PM) at Fair Funeral Home.
