Mr. Matthew Warren “Buddy” Higgs of Eden, NC passed away at the age of 72 on Friday, May 6th, 2016 at Moses Cone Hospital. 

 

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Monday, May 9th, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will follow at Overlook Cemetery. 

 

Buddy was born in Leaksville on May 16th, 1943 to Boyd Cabble Higgs and Helen Skinner but was raised by his paternal grandparents Cabble and Hattie Higgs. He joined the US NAVY in 1963 and served for 8 years and retired from Duke Power. He was a member of Summit Rd. Church of God. He was also a member of the Masons Dan River Lodge No. 129. One of his favorite roles was that of “Pop” to the Higgs men. 

 

He is survived by his wife Sherry Higgs of Eden; sons: Boyd Higgs and wife, Vonda of Eden, NC and Chad Higgs and wife, Sara of Chattanooga, TN; 3 grandchildren: Matthew, Christopher, and Isaac Higgs; 2 great-grandchildren: Mathias and Grady Higgs; sister Faye Wood and husband, Melvin of Wentworth, NC; cousin Mike Stanley and wife, Jean of Martinsville, VA; sister Judy Higgs of Eden, NC; brother Ron Higgs and wife, Brenda of Richmond, VA. 

 

A visitation will take place on Sunday, May 8th, 2016 from 6pm-8pm at Fair Funeral Home in Eden.  Other times at the home of his son, Boyd Higgs, located at 213 Grant Street Eden, NC. 

 

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Buddy's honor to The Boys and Girls Club of Eden.
