Obituary For James McArthur
August 4, 1933 - March 26, 2016


James Franklin McArthur, 82, of Washington, D.C., formerly of Eden, NC, passed away on March 26, 2016 at Brookdale-Lawndale Park in Greensboro, NC.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at North Spray Christian Church on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 2:00 PM.

Jim was born on August 4, 1933 in Spray, NC to the late John Isaac McArthur and Lillie Grogan McArthur.  He graduated from Georgetown University, Washington, DC with a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Linguistics.

Dr. McArthur was a 1951 graduate of Leaksville High School.  He received his A.B. degree in French from High Point College and his M.A. degree in the teaching of romance languages from Duke University.  He was a foreign language teacher in the state of Maryland Montgomery County School System. 

He enjoyed traveling to Europe to explore other cultures and became fluent in speaking the French language.  He also enjoyed camping and was an avid tennis player.  Jim loved his family and friends deeply. 

He is survived by his nephew Gregg Bryant of Greensboro, NC and numerous cousins and extended family.
