Gertrude Virginia Stratton, 91, of 1961 Oregon Hill Road in Ruffin, NC, passed away Thursday, January 21, 2016, at Hospice Home of Rockingham County in Wentworth.

 

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, January 26 at Victory Baptist Church.  Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

 

Mrs. Stratton was born November 18, 1924 in Rockingham County, NC to the late Samuel Martin Sawyers and Beatrice Hopkins Sawyers.  She was a retiree of American Tobacco Company.

 

She is survived by her three daughters, Gail Paschal and husband, Tommy of Greensboro, Karen Edwards and husband Donald and Bonnie Edwards and husband, Randy, both of Ruffin;  sons, Winfred Stratton and Steve Stratton, both of Ruffin;  seven grandchildren;  13 great-grandchildren;  and sisters, Christine Vernon, Lillie Taylor and Orene Baker; several nieces and nephews; special adopted daugters, Kay James and Tiffany Reeves; brother in law, Gordon Stratton.

 

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Tony Aaron Stratton; brother, Bud Sawyers;  and sisters Gladys Odell and Reeves Sawyers.  

 

The family will receive friends Monday evening, 5 - 7 PM, at Fair Funeral Home at other times at her home.

 

The family would like to thank Dr. Edward Hawkins and the Third Floor Staff of Annie Penn Hospital for the care they gave to Mrs. Stratton during her stay.  Also a special thank you to Brother Don Thomas for being with the family during their time of need.
