Obituary For Wallace Desmond Washburn
November 30, 1928 - January 7, 2016


Wallace Desmond Washburn, 87, of 206 Howe Street in Eden, passed away Thursday afternoon, January 7, 2016, at his home.

A funeral service will be held at 3 PM on Sunday at North Spray Christian Church. Military honors will be performed at the church by Rockingham County Veteran's Honor Guard and NC National Guard. Burial will be held in Roselawn Memorial Gardens on Monday, January 11, at 11 AM.

Mr. Washburn was born November 30, 1928 in Spray, NC to the late Jesse Wilmer Washburn, Sr. and Anna Belle Curry Washburn. He was a member and elder of North Spray Christian Church where he was a former Sunday School teacher. Mr. Washburn was an Army veteran having served in the Korean War and a recipient of The Purple Heart. He was also a Mason with the Anderson Lodge #258 in Gretna, VA.

He is survived by his two sisters, Nancy W. Hankins and Joyce W. White, both of Eden; nephews, Frankie White, Tim White, and Mitch White; and nieces, Melanie Hankins, Beth O'Leary, and Leah Abbott.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah Washburn and his brother, Wilmer Washburn, Jr.

The family will receive friends Saturday evening, 6 - 8 PM, at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the home of his sister, Nancy Hankins, at 402 The Boulevard in Eden.
