Obituary For Doris Slaughter Washburn April 13, 1933 - August 26, 2015 Doris Slaughter Washburn, 82, of 313 Westerly Park Road in Eden, passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at Morehead Nursing Center. A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Friday, August 28, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Ridgeview Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Washburn was born April 13, 1933 in Spray, NC to the late Luther Slaughter and Mae Hundley Slaughter. She was a member of Trinity Wesleyan Church. Doris loved her church and served on the Food Committee there. She loved her family, loved taking care of them and always enjoyed feeding the birds. She is survived by her husband, Homer C. Washburn, Jr. of the home; two sons, Joseph Flanagan of Martinsville, VA and Homer Curtis Washburn, III of Ash, NC; daughter, Wendy Barnes and husband, Skip of Eden; six grandchildren, Joanna Powell, Jill Springer, Vicky Campbell, Stephanie Washburn, Samantha Washburn, and Jesse Barnes; and sisters, Lorene Rea, Sally Coone and husband, Doug, and Polly Purdy and husband, Johnny, all of Eden. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Allen; and four brothers, Jack, Charlie, Melvin, and Garland Slaughter. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service (1 - 2 PM) at Fair Funeral Home Chapel and other times at the residence.
