Obituary For Robert Wendell Moore, Jr.
August 29, 1944 - October 13, 2014


Robert Wendell (Bob) Moore, Jr., 70, died peacefully at Rockingham County Hospice Home on Monday morning, October 13, 2014 following a very brief battle with cancer. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at North Spray Christian Church, 521 Washburn Avenue, Eden, N.C.. a native of Rocky Mount, N.C., Mr. Moore was the first child of late parents Robert Wendell Moore, Sr. and Nell Speight Moore. He moved to Leaksville in 1957 when his father accepted a position here as the Chamber of Commerce President. A 1964 graduate of J.M. Morehead High School, Bob was a former funeral director, a former owner of a shoe and boot business and was an automobile and truck salesman at the time of his retirement. Mr. Moore was a member of North Spray Christian Church where he served as an Elder, a stew volunteer and, most recently, negotiated the purchase of a new customized church bus which he brought back from Tennessee himself. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose #864 where he served as an officer and trustee, was a former member of the ritualistic team and had attained the degree of Moose Legionnaire.

Mr. Moore was active in his community formerly serving as an Advisor to the Young Men?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s Order of DeMolay, the Tri-City Jaycees and the Eden Kiwanis. He was also a member of the N.C. State Funeral Director?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s Association. In private pursuits, Mr. Moore was a long time member of Lynrock Golf Club and of the Dak-Shack Travel Club from 1988 - 2000. He loved being near the water and spent as much time as possible at the beach. In addition to being a history and genealogy buff, Bob will be remembered as a loyal friend, always ready to do a favor for friend or stranger and reliable to the end.

He is survived by his wife, the former Debra Sue Wilson, of the home, sons, Jason Robert Moore of Greensboro, Kristopher Aaron Parker of Lexington and daughter, Misty Michelle Parker of Ruffin, a grandson, Bradley Clark Parker, three grand daughters, Brooklyn Marie Parker, Sydney Leigh Butler and Sierra Elizabeth Butler, and son-in-law, Mark Butler. He is also survived by two sisters, Elizabeth Moore Thomason and son Duane Thomason both of Mars Hill, N.C. and Alease Moore Perry and daughter Georgia Perry both of Atlanta, Georgia,a loving mother-in-law, Sylvia DeHart Wilson, and a large extended family and many friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Moore was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Thomas Cuesell Wilson, his maternal grandmother affectionately known to him as ?¢‚Ǩ?ìPretty?¢‚Ǩ¬ù, his paternal grandmother affectionately known to him as ?¢‚Ǩ?ìSweetheart?¢‚Ǩ¬ù , a brother-in-law, Jack Thomason and nephew, Artie Thomason.

A visitation will be held at Fair Funeral Home on Friday evening, October 17, 2014 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. At other times, the family will be at home at 182 Sparrow Road, Eden, N.C.
