Obituary For Otis Leon Hutcherson
January 25, 1919 - May 23, 2014


Otis Leon Hutcherson, 95, of 212 Nature Lane in Eden, passed away Friday morning, May 23, 2014, at Hospice Home of Rockingham County in Wentworth.

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, May 27, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens with the Rockingham County Honor Guard l performing military rites at the graveside.

A native of Rockingham County, NC, Mr. Hutcherson was born January 25, 1919 to the late George and Myrtle Shropshire Hutcherson. He was a member of Church of the Epiphany. Otis was a World War II Army veteran and earned several medals along with a Presidential Unit Citation and a retiree of Duke Power Company. Mr. Hutcherson was active in his community serving with many military organizations including, lifetime member of VFW (Veteran's of Foreign War) in which he served as Commander and Quarter Master, lifetime member of Disable American Veterans, a co-founder of the Veteran's Park in Wentworth, former director of Veteran's Park, and a member of the American Legion.

He is survived by his daughter, Shelby Proffitt of Johnson City, TN; three sons, Garland Hutcherson and wife, Carrie, Donnie Hutcherson, both of Eden, and Michael Hutcherson and wife, Patti of Reidsville; three grandchildren, Shawn Proffitt of Charlotte, Kelly Proffitt of Knoxville, TN, and Michael Hutcherson, Jr. of Panama City, FL; nine great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren, Duane Maness, Marty Maness, and Tracy Moyers; three step-great-grandchildren; brothers, Clayton Hutcherson and Harold Hutcherson, both of Eden; and three sisters, Pauline Crowder, Buena Martin, and Polly Setliff, all of Eden.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Camilla Roberson Hutcherson and son-in-law, Gale Proffitt.

The family will receive friends Monday evening, 6 - 8 PM, at Fair Funeral Home.
