Obituary For Alvin Ray Smith March 18, 1934 - March 21, 2014 Alvin R. "Possum" Smith , age 80 of 202 Harvey Road, Stoneville, went home to be with the Lord on March 21, 2014 at Morehead Memorial Hospital. A funeral service will be held 2 pm Monday at Fair Funeral Home with burial to follow at Overlook Cemetery. Alvin was a former employee of Baxter and Kelly of Stoneville. He loved Bluegrass music and Gospel music. For years he opened up his home every Friday night for neighbors and friends to come to make music and fellowship. The family would like to say a special thank you to Larry Tolbert for helping Alvin for many years, "you have been a true friend". Also a special thank you to all his neighbors and friends for all your prayers and visits. Alvin was preceded in death by his father Harvey Smith; mother, Callie Biggs Smith and brother, LeRoy Smith. He is survived by his brother, James H. Smith and wife Estelle of Sandy Level, VA.. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews whom he loved. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 6-8 pm at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the home of Betty S. Handy, 230 Memorial Baptist Church, Stoneville, NC.
